During a summer weekend in Maine, 11 year-old Alan visits his grandparents, Edith and Harold, unwittingly disrupting their resentful marriage, reigniting old pain and sending ripples of conflict through three generations.
Edith is stuck in a loveless marriage, pining after the one that got away, an old ring, a photo, a letter. The only mementos left of a life that could have been. Her grandson Alan visits for a summer weekend and turns her failing marriage to the alcoholic Harold upside down. Alan discovers the ring while playing alone in the barn, hidden in the glovebox of an old Mercedes. In childish romantic gesture, Alan gives the ring to a neighborhood crush. When Edith discovers the ring is missing, she accuses her husband, opening old wounds and causing her to spiral outwards. What do we do when our family can't seem to communicate?
BONUS FEATURES: A MiniDV short film capturing the essence and nostalgia that inspired TEMPERANCE, shot in the same location as the film.
