Alan discovers the ring while playing alone in the barn, hidden in the glovebox of an old Mercedes. In childish romantic gesture, Alan gives the ring to a neighborhood crush. Up against one of the most powerful companies on the planet, a group of Amazon workers embark on an unprecedented campaign to unionize their warehouse in Staten Island, New York.

Through intimate cinema vérité, UNION chronicles the extraordinary efforts of an unlikely group of warehouse workers as they launch a grassroots union campaign at an Amazon fulfillment center in Staten Island, New York. Led by the charismatic but underestimated Chris Smalls, the diverse band of workers start the Amazon Labor Union (ALU) and embark on a journey against one of the largest and most powerful companies in the world. The odds are stacked against them, as the group finds itself up against a tech industry giant with unlimited resources, without major support from national unions or politicians, and while navigating internal divisions within their own ranks. Filmmakers Brett Story and Stephen Maing document the struggle from day one, offering a gripping human drama about the fight for power and dignity in today's globalized economic landscape.

HEIGHTENED SCRUTINY drive
$29.99

[Watch the trailer &/or view full credit listings]

Director: Sam Feder

Fearless civil rights lawyer Chase Strangio battles at the Supreme Court for transgender adolescents’ access to gender-affirming healthcare, confronting not only the legal system but also a media landscape that distorts public perception and threatens the struggle for trans rights. With the dangerous SCOTUS decision upholding the ban on life-saving healthcare, HEIGHTENED SCRUTINY is an urgent call to action against bigotry and injustice.

“Critic’s pick!” —IndieWire, Variety

“Hard-hitting documentary!” —Adrian Horton, The Guardian

“As if in a stern rebuke to the ‘just asking questions’ crowd, who reduce people’s lives to intellectual exercises, HEIGHTENED SCRUTINY interweaves thought and feeling simultaneously.” —Siddhant Adlakha, Variety

“In Feder’s 2020 documentary DISCLOSURE — a film that should be required viewing for all those working in entertainment — the filmmaker tracks the evolution of how trans life is represented on screen, from harmful portrayals in movies like THE CRYING GAME to more rounded depictions in the FX series POSE. With HEIGHTENED SCRUTINY — which also includes trans actress and activist Laverne Cox as an executive producer and on-screen contributor as she was with DISCLOSURE — Feder forms another compelling argument against trans bias, albeit one that’s immediacy proves far more dire.” – Harrison Richlin, IndieWire

THE PEOPLE'S JOKER drive
$29.99

[Watch the trailer &/or view full credit listings]

Director: Vera Drew

An aspiring comedian moves to Gotham City and grapples with her gender while forming an anti-comedy troupe and combatting a fascistic caped crusader. This revolutionary DIY parody film and hilarious reimagining of the classic autobiographical coming-of-age story follows an unconfident, closeted trans girl as she moves to Gotham City to make it big as a comedian by joining the cast of UCB Live - a government-sanctioned late night sketch show in a world where comedy has been outlawed. As mainstream success eludes our heroine, leading her to unite with a ragtag team of rejects, misfits, and a certain love interest named Mister J, "Joker the Harlequin" is born again as a confident (and psychotic) joker on a collision course with the city's fascist caped crusader. Vats of feminizing chemicals, sexy cartoon interludes, scarecrow psychiatrists, CGI Lorne Michaels, and psychedelic gender dysphoria all play supporting roles. Helmed by writer/director/editor/star Vera Drew and using her own life experiences as a basis for the film, THE PEOPLE’S JOKER is a deeply personal journey that's as much documentary as it is parody.

THE PEOPLE’S JOKER features a superhero-sized cast of celebrated comedic talent in both voice and live action roles behind the vibrant kaleidoscope of characters that lampoon the iconic heroes and villains of the DC comics' world, featuring cameos from comedy multi-hyphenate Tim Heidecker, award-winning actor Bob Odenkirk, Maria Bamford (Netflix's 'Big Mouth', Adult Swim's 'Teenage Euthanasia'), and Scott Aukerman ('Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis' co-creator and host of the 'Comedy Bang! Bang!' podcast), with Vera Drew, Lynn Downey (Amazon Prime Video's 'Daisy Jones & The Six'), Nathan Faustyn ('Saddled'), and Kane Distler, in his film debut as Mister J.

THIS MUCH WE KNOW drive
$29.99

[Watch the trailer &/or view full credit listings]

Director: L. Frances Henderson

In Las Vegas, a boy's sudden jump from a casino and a nation’s desperate attempt to dump its nuclear excess in a nearby mountain converge in this sharply cathartic portrait about factual obsession, subjective realities and talking spirits.

Grieving the suicide of a friend, L. Frances Henderson heads to Las Vegas, the suicide capitol of the nation, to seek answers. There she learns about the shocking death of a local teenager who leaped from the roof of the city's tallest casino. While investigating the suicide epidemic further, she finds that the city is also burdened by a national problem scrambling to bury decades of nuclear excess in a nearby mountain. Artfully maneuvering between two stories burgeoning with existential questions, THIS MUCH WE KNOW masterfully links these seemingly disparate subjects of self-annihilation and environmental issues into something supernatural, unforgettable, and transcendent.

Presented in partnership with Oscilloscope Laboratories.

Michelle, a single rootless twenty-something searches for sex and love, drugs and adventure in San Francisco.

"Driven more by style and attitude than by narrative, this freeform adaptation of Michelle Tea's cult novel/memoir is always stimulating." –Variety

Valencia is an experimental collaboration of 20 queer filmmakers to adapt the underground classic memoir into a kaleidoscopic vision of San Francisco’s vibrant Mission District in the early 1990s, before the dot-com apocalypse, when the neighborhood functioned as a low-rent playground for a generation of punk lesbians who came of age during the birth of the Queer Nation. Winner of the Jury Award For Best Experimental Feature at Polari Film Festival 2013 and the Jury Award For Best Narrative Feature at Chicago Reeling Film Festival 2013.
