What’s going on here?

Video Store•Age is an unconventional film distribution company. We’re using an innovative approach to a tried + true distribution model to get cool movies into curious hands. Literally. Our goal is to feed the growing appetite for a modern iteration of physical media movement for movies. Blending analog spirit // print media nostalgia / tangible cultural tokens w/ digital utility, we’ve built these patent pending encrypted USBs for anyone who likes what they’re reading right now! And we’re putting rad movies on them. Owning one of these is the new (& only!) way to have a tangible, platform-free, personal movie library using contemporary technology. Basically, these are like DVDs conjugated in the present tense! Plus, every purchase benefits filmmakers directly.

Go direct & collect. We’re stoked for you to plug in ▶︎

  • We want to be a part of creating a healthy future of independent film distribution. This is the future: a pathway back to physical, individual ownership of cinema for both the contemporary cinephile and digital native. We’re connecting you directly to the art — no middlemen, no algorithms, just real films in your hands. All of our profits are split 50/50 with our filmmakers.

  • We will be releasing a quarterly seasonal collection of 5 features and 5 shorts, accumulating a library of highly curated, hard-to-access indies. For each film we collect (& invite you to!), we will host an in-person launch event [not a screening] tailored tightly to each title’s spirit, carving out moments to connect artists and audiences directly. We’re about connection, not content.

  • Our releases will be purposefully quite varied, but the through lines you can expect from our curation are: strong, earnest, rad, exciting, meaningful, independent, precious, miraculous movies. Video Store.Age is where you should come looking for: things you’ve been digging around for on r/lost media, hard-hitting political nonfiction that the streamers are too cowardly to take on, early works by major directors, films too sexually explicit to put online, and/or zany crazy stuff too few people have seen.

  • Our artists are our partners, period. We split all sales profits directly with the artists who make them possible, 50/50. When you buy a film, your money goes straight back to the people who made it. We are so grateful to the filmmakers trusting us with the circulation of their precious materials - they’re forward thinkers & risk takers & movers + shakers.

  • Our crowds are super curious, seeking a curated variety, and are hungry to go direct and collect. They really want to connect with films, the artists behind them, and each other; and we want to plug them in. Maybe you’re sick of paying so many subscription fees, still getting slapped with ads, and never being able to watch the actual titles you want without paying extra. Maybe you love VHS & DVD, but you want to watch those movies on a plane. Maybe you’re one of our moms. Whoever you are, we’re glad you’re here & appreciate your support.

  • Our proprietary encrypted USB drives are super easy to use & ensure our filmmaker’s precious works are safe + sound. You can plug our drive into any computer via either USB A or USB C and use our embedded player to get watchin.’

  • Video Store•Age is built by curators. We are film freaks first. We’ve spent years deep in the trenches programming some of the biggest, longest-running festivals in the U.S. The rich experiences with editorial experimentation, the longitudinal study of the industry our perches have provided, the tired but honed eyes of mass-movie witnessing, and the vast & ever expanding networks we’ve garnered are the juicy ingredients we’ve cooked Video Store.Age up with. • While we’ve got a clear curatorial point of view - which we hope our library speaks clearly from its own mouth about - we want to always be turning over any rock that wants us to. You don’t have to know someone to get on our drives. We want to know you. Sometimes we know where to look for the next sickest thing. Sometimes we need you to direct our attention. Our submissions are always open.
