LEAVE THE BUS THROUGH THE BROKEN WINDOW (2019)

A brokenhearted filmmaker navigates an unfamiliar city and his own emotional turmoil while attempting—and failing—to document an art fair in Hong Kong. A mysterious, tragicomic film-within-a-film, hailed as “the most original and fascinating documentary” of 2019.

After its world premiere at SXSW, LEAVE THE BUS THROUGH THE BROKEN WINDOW completed an enviable festival run, including CPH:DOX and BAM Cinemafest, and was slated for a limited engagement in galleries, museums, and art spaces in 2020. Its debut screening at Art Basel Hong Kong was scuttled by the global pandemic. Subsequent political upheaval in Hong Kong, including the passage of the National Security Law, made the film’s political content sensitive, and it has remained in a private collection ever since. Acclaimed by critics yet rarely seen, the film is now being released in an exclusive, collectible edition, offering discerning audiences a long-hidden work that merges formal experimentation, wry humor, and deeply personal reflection—foreshadowing many of the contemporary storytelling approaches now shaping social media.
